Tunisia, Libya Commit to Boosting Economic, Trade Ties
(MENAFN) Tunisian Prime Minister Sarra Zaafrani Zenzri and Libya’s Minister of Economy and Trade Mohamed al-Hwej met in Tunis on Wednesday to reaffirm their mutual commitment to boosting economic and trade cooperation, according to an official statement from the Tunisian government.
The leaders reviewed the progress from the Tunisian-Libyan Joint Trade Commission meeting held December 7-8, 2024, in Tripoli, aiming to build on shared efforts to deepen bilateral relations.
Zenzri highlighted Tunisia’s commitment to broadening and diversifying trade relations with Libya, while advancing closer economic integration between the two neighboring countries. She also reaffirmed Tunisia’s strong support for Libya’s sovereignty, underscoring that the situation in Libya is an internal affair that should remain free from external interference.
Al-Hwej advocated for aligning standards to facilitate smoother cross-border goods movement. He also highlighted the critical need to develop the private sector, accelerate the digitalization of administrative processes, and dismantle obstacles hindering trade.
